“Never hooped a day in my life, and my friend dragged me to this hoop class while I was visiting town. To my surprise, it was easier than I thought, I was able to do it, and it was super fun! No one cares if the hoop drops either, everyone laughs instead - my cheeks hurt!”

“As a life-long ballet dancer, I had an injury later in life that took me off stage. Saw a magazine article at the Physical Therapy office about HoopDance and asked the therapist if I could take this class. He said, “go for it”, so I did. What a perfect transition of movement for me. My heart hurt not to be on tour, and now my heart is filled to the brim in my Hoop Habit!”

“My girlfriend dragged me to this hooping class with her one night. I was the only dude there. At first I thought it may be weird, but Andi was so cool, helpful and inclusive for everyone. She is a great teacher.”

“in my early 60s I had a stroke. At the point of rehabilitation, the Dr said it was time for exercise. Life was too short not to have fun. Researched online for a Hooping Teacher and found Andi Girl and Hoop Habit. Private sessions until I was able to drive to the group classes. She’s the best!”

FAQ's

Try this: Stand with your hoop in front of you. The general rule of thumb is that a hoop should be between the belly button and chest height, although some compensation should be made for your waist size, too. A general rule of thumb: The bigger you are, the bigger the hoop should be. Larger hoops will rotate slower, making getting started easier. Smaller than that will make the hoop rotate faster, this is more challenging but also better for doing fancy tricks and exercising.

Heat + gravity = a warped hoop   Never leave your hoop in the sun or in the heat (like the back seat of your car). If this warps the hoop, then lay your hoop out on a flat surface in the sunshine for about 10 minutes and the hoop should go back to its circular form.

Start and end your hooping session with a few isolated stretching exercises.

  • Be aware of space- lighting fixtures, mirrors, small children, and animals
  • Store your hoop in a cool, dry & flat surface
  • Never leave your hoop in the sun or in the heat (like the back seat of your car). If this warps the hoop, then lay your hoop out on a flat surface in the sunshine for about 10 minutes and the hoop should go back to its circular form
  • Hooping on the grass or other soft surface will prevent the tape from dinging or scratching.
  • Prevent scrapes/marks on white ceilings & walls with white tape. We call it the Snowflake Series.

Dress comfortable, ready to move, in all ways. Its best to wear fitted clothes, no slippery fabrics.

The hoop has the power to make people feel part of something special, desire enlightenment, and encouragement to transform. Committed to raising global consciousness through healing & applying practical tools for spirit|mind|body|emotional| and sexual fitness.

Hoop Habit™ is a one-stop source in play therapy and motivational movement teacher training.

You may have heard the saying, ‘every trend comes full circle.’ In this literal case, what once was a fad of the ’50s is now considered one of the hottest sensations sweeping the nation… from nightclubs and parties to corporate team building, fitness centers, dance studios, and more! Hoop Dance is the fusion of dance, exercise, creative movement, and play. Modern hoop dance is influenced by numerous dance forms including hip-hop, tribal, ballet, break dancing, jazz, belly dancing, and burlesque.

Modern hooping is for all ages and bodies of all sizes, especially adults.

This hoop does not discriminate against any body type. Today’s Hoop is a larger, heavier hoop combined with friction tape creating ease for core body movement. The ‘Bigger is better’ philosophy creates a slower movement. This gives you the time to explore creative movements different than the spastic gyrations that those little plastic hoops require. In general, the only thing keeping anyone from succeeding in the hoop is self-confidence.
